And only a 45 min drive from the city, you’ll find Siringit Villa, located on Kilimanjaro Golf & Wildlife Estate. This serene getaway offers peaceful, natural wildlife surroundings just a short drive from the city — giving you the best of both worlds!
The History of Arusha
The Wa-Arusha people, related to the Maasai, were the first to settle in Arusha, living off herding and farming. In the late 1800s, German colonizers moved in, and later the British took over. What they built can still be seen today.
These days, Arusha is recognized globally for its work in promoting peace and international discussions. The Arusha Declaration in 1967 helped shape Tanzania’s socialist direction, and years later, the city hosted the UN court for the Rwanda genocide. Arusha continues to represent unity and teamwork between nations.
The Culture of Arusha
From the exciting vibe in the streets to the workmanship in its markets, Arusha is full of culture!
Maasai Market – An open-air space with handcrafted beaded jewelry, colourful fabrics, and traditional Swahili art.
Cultural Heritage Centre – A complex offering galleries of fine African art, crafts, and other local items.
Local Cuisine – Savour local favourites like Nyama Choma (grilled meat), Ugali, and Pilau. Try some of Arusha’s fresh coffee, which is grown on the surrounding mountainous areas.
